There are six boxes here, no more. Someone reads it properly, then rings to talk through your song, your date, and which part of Leeds the lessons should come to.

01 · Leeds weddings

Leeds is too spread out for one kind of wedding.

Georgian rooms in the centre, mill conversions along the water, country hotels the far side of the ring road: Leeds couples marry in spaces that have almost nothing in common. The floor you will be standing on changes what works, so it is one of the first things we ask about.

Where you live decides the logistics.

Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Horsforth, Roundhay, Meanwood, Morley: the drive between any two of those at six in the evening is not nothing. Bringing the lesson to your postcode is often the difference between a plan that survives the wedding run-up and one that quietly stops happening.

Your song decides the dance.

The rest is built from the recording: its tempo, where the best sixty seconds sit, whether it wants shortening. Your instructor choreographs from that track for the two of you specifically, and nothing arrives second-hand from another couple's wedding.

02 · Your instructor

The person who turns up at your door.

Teaching in Leeds is done by instructors already working across the city, who know which venues have a sprung floor and which have carpet, and how long it genuinely takes to get from Horsforth to Garforth on a Friday.

You are matched with someone who covers your part of Leeds and has room in the weeks before your date. They will ask what the two of you listen to, watch how you stand next to each other, and build from there. Nothing is recycled, largely because there is no house routine sitting about to recycle.

Everyone teaching for us works this way and charges the same prices. If your dates shift and a different instructor picks you up, none of that changes.

04 · Where in Leeds

Living rooms, function rooms, and the floor you have booked.

You never join a class and you never have to come to us. There are three places we can teach in, and plenty of Leeds couples try two of them before the wedding.

Your home

A back-to-back in Hyde Park, a semi out in Roundhay, a new flat down by the water: if two people can stand and turn without meeting the sofa, that is a start. No journey, no parking to pay for, your own speaker.

Your venue

Where the venue can spare the room for a lesson, one hour on the real floor is worth two anywhere else. You discover the step down onto the dance floor before the wedding does.

A hired floor

When home is tight, we book a room with a proper floor in your bit of the city, north, south or nearer the middle, and meet you there. Which room depends on availability; it is confirmed when the lesson is.

05 · Coverage

Wedding Dance Leeds — the whole city, then out into the county.

The centre, Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Horsforth, Meanwood, Kirkstall, Moortown, Morley and Garforth, then onward to Wakefield, Otley, Ilkley, Wetherby, Pudsey and Guiseley. Sitting just off the edge of that list? Ask; it is usually fine.

06 · The reluctant

Two of you, one song, no theatre.

A good many couples ring having already settled on shuffling for thirty seconds and getting it over with. That is a perfectly respectable plan, and it improves enormously with three small additions: knowing how you walk on, one turn you both trust, and an ending you have agreed in advance. An afternoon's work, not a change of career.

When the song will not behave.

Six-minute album versions, key changes in awkward places, a first verse that goes nowhere: most tracks need editing before they make a good first dance. Your choreographer will tell you which ninety seconds are worth keeping, and your DJ or band can take it from there.

07 · Leeds questions

What Leeds couples ask before booking.

The local ones are here. Lesson counts, footwear and how early to begin are all answered on the main page.

We live in Horsforth and the venue is out past Wetherby. Where do the lessons happen?

Wherever is least trouble for you, and it can change between lessons. Most Leeds couples learn at home and then book one session at the venue near the end, once the routine exists and the floor is the only unknown. The price is identical either way.

Our song is six minutes long. Do we dance to all of it?

Almost nobody does. A first dance tends to run about ninety seconds to two minutes before guests are waved on, so the job is deciding which part of the track earns the floor. Your instructor will listen to it with you and mark where a cut can be made without it sounding hacked about.

A band is playing our song live at our Leeds reception. Can we still choreograph to it?

Yes, with one extra step: ask the band for their arrangement and, if they will, a rough recording to rehearse against. Live tempo drifts a fraction, so the routine is built to follow the music rather than a stopwatch. Say on the form that it is live and we will plan around it.

We both work in central Leeds. What times of day do lessons happen?

Evenings and weekends are what most couples ask for and most of what gets booked. It depends on the diary of the instructor covering your area, so the useful thing is to tell us which slots suit you; we will say quickly whether they are free.

Our flat in Chapel Allerton is small, but my parents in Roundhay have a big room. Can we swap?

Easily. Learning somewhere with more floor is often the sensible move, and a parent's front room, a hall a friend can get hold of, or a room we hire all count. Tell your instructor which address before the lesson so nobody drives to the wrong one.

Do we bring the music, or do you?

Bring it, on a phone you are happy to hand over, and download it rather than trusting the wi-fi. Your instructor brings a speaker. If you have three possible songs and no decision, bring all three: hearing them in a room while you move is usually what ends the argument.
